Milpitas, Calif. - Apr 26, 2011 – FireEye, Inc., the leader in next-generation Malware Protection Systems (MPS), announced today it has joined the Blue Coat Technology Integration Partners program. The Blue Coat ProxySG appliances and the FireEye Web Malware Protection System work together to stop advanced malware, zero-day and targeted attacks from advanced, persistent threats (APT).
Defending against next-generation threats requires a dynamic, real-time strategy that moves beyond signatures and behavioral heuristics. Together, the FireEye Web MPS and Blue Coat ProxySG appliances enable customers to stop both incoming known and zero-day, advanced malware as well as outbound malware “callback” communications used for data theft or fraudulent transaction activities. Signatures and heuristics remain valuable against known threats: criminals never throw away an exploit kit or other penetration method, they just exploit new vulnerabilities and concoct new evasion techniques.
Malicious domains can be automatically shared from the FireEye Web MPS to Blue Coat ProxySG appliances, allowing administrators to implement a block/deny policy to stop all attempted connections to such domains and provide logging for customizable reporting specific to the defined categories. Administrators can customize categories and policies to deal separately with zero-day infection URLs and callback URLs. For zero-day, infection URLs, for example, customers can create a policy that refers end users to a coaching page that informs them a drive-by download was blocked. For the callback URL policy, the end user could be alerted that their machine was previously infected and to immediately take remediation steps.
"The dynamic nature of web-based malware requires a web security solution that can respond in real time to block web-based malware attempting to access the network as well as malware that is introduced to the network through other means," said Ben Rice, senior director of business development at Blue Coat Systems. "Blue Coat and FireEye provide that dynamic protection by combining flexible policies and visibility into the web ecosystem with advanced capabilities for identifying threats already on the network."
Blue Coat ProxySG appliances are backed by its cloud-based WebPulse service, which analyzes web requests from 75 million users in real time to identify and block new and evolving web-based malware, including “call-home” sites. The discovery of malware by one user immediately protects all other users without requiring software updates.
FireEye's state-of-the-art malware analysis engine provides dynamic, real-time technology for customers to obtain clear, actionable intelligence, accelerate incident response, and mitigate financial and data losses. FireEye’s solutions supplement traditional security, such as firewalls, IPS and antivirus, which no longer stop advanced threats, leaving significant security gaps in network infrastructure.
"Together with Blue Coat Systems, we are addressing advanced cyber attacks, looking at both inbound and outbound threat protection across Web traffic." said Ashar Aziz, founder and CEO of FireEye. "As a result, we provide our joint customers with dynamic, real-time protection against advanced, persistent attacks."
