Cyber Conflicts: Dynamics, Trends, and Lessons Learned with Jason Healey

Live from Black Hat 2013, our own Richard Bejtlich sits down with Jason Healey, director, Cyber Statecraft Initiative of the Atlantic Council to discuss cyber conflict.

Healey has edited the first-ever history of cyber conflict, A Fierce Domain: Cyber Conflict, 1986 to 2012 and in this podcast discusses historical situations - from Stuxnet to Estonia - that have impacted the cyber landscape.

Despite the many examples of nascent cyber conflict, Healey shines a light on decision makers who are turning a blind eye to learning important lessons from historical events. Why do they choose to ignore the evidence? Healey indicates several reasons; including the classification of threats, turn-over of personnel that understand the lesson, especially the classification of threats and turnover of people that understood the lesson.
